PakonScan drives your Pakon film scanner over USB on modern macOS — no Windows XP, no virtual machines. The minilab's original colour science, recovered and rebuilt for Apple Silicon.

PakonScan frame editor — a developed frame with the tone and colour sliders

Colour

The lab's colour, not a filter.

PakonScan rebuilds the original Pakon colour engine — recovered from the OEM software and checked frame-by-frame against the minilab's own renders. Open a roll and the negatives are already the colour the lab would have printed.

The roll

Your whole roll, at a glance.

Every frame the scanner found, laid out on one contact sheet — skim the roll, compare frames side by side, and jump straight to the one you want to grade. Digital ICE has already cleaned the dust and scratches on the way in.

Framing

Every frame found. Every format known.

Full-frame, half-frame and XPan panoramas are detected and cut automatically. Misaligned rolls repair themselves with automatic line-phase correction — the whole roll lands square without a single manual crop.

Scanning

Feed a shoebox. Walk away.

PakonScan speaks the scanner's native USB protocol — cold start, calibration and wind-out handled for you. After the first roll the lamp and transport stay warm, so every following roll starts about 22 seconds sooner. DX film codes are read straight off the edge barcode.

Questions

Before you download.

Which scanners are supported?
Pakon F-135 and F-135 Plus today. The F-235 and F-335 share the protocol and are on the roadmap for validation.
Is there a subscription?
No. Pakon Scan is a one-time $99 purchase with every feature included. It activates on up to two Macs and includes all 1.x updates.
Do I need old drivers or Windows XP?
No. PakonScan talks to the scanner directly over USB on modern macOS — nothing else to install.
What Mac do I need?
macOS 14 Sonoma or newer. Apple Silicon is fully native; Intel Macs are supported too.
Where does my film data go?
Nowhere. Scanning and processing are entirely local; the network is touched only to activate your licence.
Can I keep using my scans elsewhere?
Always. Exports are ordinary 16-bit TIFF or JPEG files that open in any editor, on any Mac.
